We Have a Sport for Everyone
Where Every Student Finds Their Place to Shine
At Rolling Hills Prep, our Athletics and Esports programs are more than just extracurricular activities—they're essential elements of our student-centered approach to education. Our programs develop character, teamwork, and leadership abilities that last well beyond graduation day. We create opportunities for students at all skill levels to participate, grow, and discover their potential in both traditional and emerging competitive activities.

Our Athletics Approach
The Athletic Department is a key part of the well-rounded, student-focused education at RHP. We embody our core values of inspiring a passion for learning, celebrating differences, cultivating creativity, fostering community, and promoting well-being.
Through athletics, students learn or improve skills, practice teamwork, demonstrate good sportsmanship, and develop leadership qualities. Sports teach students to face life's challenges with confidence, resilience, and determination. We believe everyone has a place in our athletic programs and encourage all students to join, offering a wide variety of sports for everyone, from casual athletes to those aiming for college sports.

Small School, Big Opportunities
The RHP Athletics Advantage
While our intimate community ensures every student is known and valued, our robust athletics program offers opportunities typically found at much larger schools:
- 18 team sports across three seasons for middle and upper school
- Competitive CIF participation in the Coastal League of the Southern Section
- College-bound athletics program with proven collegiate recruitment success
- Professional coaching staff including Hall of Fame coaches
- Comprehensive facilities including full-size gymnasium, sports fields, and fitness center
Beyond the Scoreboard
Athletics as Character Development
The true value of our athletics program extends far beyond wins and losses. Through sports, RHP students develop:
- Commitment & Hard Work – Effort and consistency lead to growth.
- Integrity & Sportsmanship – Competing the right way matters more than the scoreboard.
- Teamwork & Leadership – Every player has a role in creating a strong team culture.
- Resilience & Growth Mindset – Learning from failure is key to long-term success.
- Inclusivity & Respect – Everyone deserves a place and a voice in our athletic community.
Our coaches serve as mentors who understand that developing character is as important as developing athletic skill—creating an environment where students learn to balance competitive drive with sportsmanship and respect.
Student Participation
Athletics is a core part of the RHP experience, with over 60% of our student body participating in at least one sport. Participation is especially strong in our Upper School, where more than 70% of students are involved in athletics.
A Tradition of Excellence
Our teams have a strong track record of success while competing against similarly-sized schools in the Coastal League of the California Interscholastic Federation's Southern Section.
No-Cut Policy
A cornerstone of our inclusive athletics philosophy is our no-cut policy, especially in Middle School programs. This ensures that every student has the opportunity to participate, grow, and contribute to their team regardless of their initial skill level. We believe that sports should be accessible to all students who wish to commit to the team, learn, and improve.
The Next Frontier
Competitive Esports
Recognizing the evolving landscape of competitive activities, Rolling Hills Prep proudly launched our Esports program in 2024. This innovative addition to our athletics department brings the same principles of teamwork, strategy, and skill development to the digital arena.
Our esports teams compete in:
- League of Legends
- Rocket League
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
- Valorant
Just as with our traditional sports, our esports program emphasizes sportsmanship, strategic thinking, and character development—while providing a competitive outlet for students whose talents shine in digital environments.
